Our Story

Nestled at 116 Moulsham Street in the heart of Chelmsford, Moulsham Residential Home has been serving local families for over four decades. What began in the early 1980s as a small family-run care home grew from a simple vision to create a welcoming , home-like haven where older people are treated with respect and warmth. Our founding team believed every resident deserved comfort and dignity in their later years, and from that first day these values have shaped everything we do. Even today, our home’s record spanning an excellent history in caring over 40 years, reflects the enduring trust placed in us by the Chelmsford community. From those first days, our founders set down core principles to guide the home: that every resident should be treated with dignity, compassion, and professionalism, and given truly personal attention. This commitment to kindness and respect became our compass. While the faces and furnishings have changed over the years, the original spirit of caring remains at our center. Our Values Our guiding values shape how we care for every resident and family. They include: Dignity & Respect : We honour each person’s life story and individuality. Residents are always treated with courtesy, and their privacy and choice are protected at every turn. Compassion : Our team takes the time to listen and to truly understand each resident’s needs and feelings. We respond to every request with patience, kindness, and understanding. Professionalism : Skilled, well-trained staff provide safe, reliable care around the clock. We hold ourselves to high standards through ongoing training and by following best practices in health, safety, and elder care. Personal Attention : We focus on the whole person. From tailored activities to special dietary needs and personal preferences, we get to know each resident and family so that our care feels as familiar as home. Our Caring Team Our staff are the heart of Moulsham Home. Many of our care staff, nurses, and support team members have been with us for years, bringing warmth and continuity to everyday life here. They engage residents in activities, walks to the local park, games and outings in town, ensuring no one feels lonely or overlooked. At mealtime you’ll find carers chatting with residents over home-cooked meals, and on weekends families often join us for tea in the garden to take a moment to reflect on the family-like atmosphere we strive for. Above all, our team is experienced in meeting a wide range of needs. Under the leadership of our Manager, Nicola Gardener, we care for both older and younger adults. We have expertise in supporting people living with dementia or physical disabilities, as well as those simply needing a safe, caring place to live their later years. Together, she and the team bring both professional skill and genuine warmth to every day, helping residents feel secure and family members feel at ease. A Note from Our Manager As the Manager of Moulsham Home, it is my privilege to welcome you and your loved ones. I work alongside a dedicated team that truly cares for each resident as one of our own. My door is always open to families, in fact, we have an open-door visiting policy, so you are welcome any time, day or night, to drop by and see how we’re doing. We believe in keeping families closely involved so you can meet with staff, join in events, or just enjoy a cup of tea in the lounge whenever you like. We also make it a point to communicate openly about care, changes in health, or any new plans, so that you feel confident and informed. I am proud of our home’s history and am honored to carry forward its founding mission. Seeing our residents happy, well-cared-for, and engaged brings me great joy. – Nicola Gardener Continuing Our Mission Over the years, Moulsham Home has grown and adapted while holding fast to our original mission of compassionate care. We’ve modernized our facilities to improve comfort and safety. For example, the building was recently refurbished in 2023 to make rooms and communal areas even more welcoming. At the same time, we’ve kept the character of a cosy family home that residents and families know and love. We continually update our training and practices, too, so that we use the latest caring techniques and therapies. Whether it’s adding gentle exercise classes, introducing new activity clubs, or upgrading our gardens and lounges, every change is made to serve one goal: a better life for residents. Today, families in Chelmsford trust Moulsham Residential Home because of the values that have guided us from the start. We remain committed to treating everyone who comes through our doors with the same respect, compassion, and personal attention that our founders promised. As times change, one thing stays constant: our dedication to providing a warm, dignified, and family-focused home for your loved one.
